I love maps… Check this out.. it’s cool.

I’ve always had an obsession with maps… now that I have a GPS and can track my actual movementsRun_profile
through the woods and over terrain it’s even more exciting.  With my new GPS I can add "tracks" (my path) to a topo map program.  This will show my path of travel and also my elevation profile (see pic on left).  This is very cool of course.
The example I’m showing here is my run last week through the SMBA trails (Saratoga Mountain Bike Association).  Ever since running down the shore of Lake George in the dark (see previous posts) I’ve been interested in trail running instead of road running so I went tonight holding my ipod in one hand and my gps in the other while flying through the single track trails deep in the woods.
What I’ve found out now (with a lot of google searching) is how to transfer my gps "track" toRun
Google Earth to see it on a satellite image… (pic on right click it to enlarge it to see my green track through the woods).  In Google Earth you can even see the changes in elevation I ran over tonight… Anyway… yes, I know I’m a big nerd but I still think this is pretty damn cool.  It means I can easily plaster all my hikes onto a satellite image of the Northeast.

New GPSMap60CSX

You would think that I would have gotten one of these 10 years ago BEFORE hiking all the mountains I Ptgpsmap60csxrflg
have… but I didn’t.  I made it through the woods for over 180 mountains now without one so now I’m going to spoil myself with one for my future mountains.  This one has a new chipset for picking up satellites indoors even - yes it actually does!  It can also pinpoint points of interest while driving such as chinese restaurants, parks, lakes, etc and can navigate you turn by turn from where you are to them.  It also records altitude and has a barometer.  It’s accurate anywhere in the world to 10 feet and is pretty much the shit.  I’ll never get lost again! :)

Treo 650.. Yup, I’m a big nerd…

Well, finally the class action lawsuit against Verizon and it’s V710 phone is finally over and settled.  I myself have the Motorola V710 phone so I was part of the lawsuit.
Basically, Verizon advertized the V710 as having many bluetooth capabilities such as syncing with PDA’s sending photos via bluetooth etc etc, but when people bought the phone (myself included) Verizon blocked all these features because the greedy company wanted consumers to have to pay 10 cents to transfer photos and such… thus the lawsuit was started.
I chose the option to cancel my Verizon plan without a penalty (because I didn’t know whereTreo650large I was going to Grad school when I filled the form out) and to get a $200 rebate on the phone.  Well because I chose that option I was forced to change my phone number and start a new plan with verizon.  My new phone number for anyone that wants to get a hold of me is 518-935-3275. I decided to upgrade my phone to the Treo 650.  I chose to stick with the palm software instead of the Windows Mobile 5.0
Treo 700W because all my stuff is currently in Palm and I don’t want to change.  Also the Treo 650 has a better and bigger screen for movies and pictures.  Thus I have a new smartphone pda and can get rid of my Tungsten T3 now.  If anyone wants it let me know and offer me a price :).  Check out the pic to see what my new phone looks like :)

Finally!!! Been waiting 2 years patiently for this to come out and Steve Jobs finally has done it.  Now I can take all my music, all my photos, all my ski videos, vacation videos and family videos with me in my ipod… and it’s smaller and has more memory than the one I have now… Had to wait 3 more generations for it to come out… But it’s here and it’s got a sweet price tag too!  Check it out HERE
